“Closer to Now: Under the Effect of Form and Color”

A Solo Exhibition by Erick Salazar at the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum

The San Benito Cultural Arts Department proudly presents Closer to Now: Under the Effect of Form & Color, the first solo museum exhibition by Rio Grande Valley native and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Erick B. Salazar.

About the Artist

After serving in the United States Marine Corps, Erick Salazar began his journey into the arts. He went on to earn his B.F.A. in Sculpture and Painting from the University of North Texas in Denton.

Following nearly a decade of work with the San Antonio Water System’s Water Production Department, Salazar officially returned to his artistic practice in 2021. This renewed dedication has led to a vibrant body of work that blends past techniques with new explorations in medium and process. (San Benito News, 2025)

About the Exhibition

Closer to Now reflects Salazar’s current artistic vision — each piece capturing the thoughts, emotions, and experiences of its creation. Many works revisit methods from his early career while expanding into fresh mediums enriched by his evolving perspective.

The collection features over 40 works, spanning collage, paper types, canvas, wood, and paint bases. Salazar’s art balances rhythm and precision: from fluid drip painting to multi-colored, layered compositions. His pieces echo the textures and cadence of family life in South Texas, grounded in close observation and introspection.

Line, color, shape, and texture form the foundation of this musical-visual journey. (San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum, 2025)
