🎭 Coming Soon: The Prisoner of Second Avenue by Neil Simon
If you’re looking for a fun night out filled with laughter, quick wit, and a touch of chaos, mark your calendar. El Paseo Arts Foundation is bringing Neil Simon’s “The Prisoner of Second Avenue” to South Padre Island.
The show opens Thursday, October 30, and runs through Saturday, November 1 as part of El Paseo’s 21st season.
🌆 What’s It About?
Meet Mel Edison, a well-paid executive living in a fancy Manhattan apartment. Life seems great, until it isn’t. His company suddenly hits tough times, and Mel finds himself out of a job. His wife, Edna, picks up the slack and lands a position of her own… only to lose that too.
Add in some dying plants from air pollution, noisy neighbors, and a psychiatrist who dies with $23,000 of Mel’s money, and things start to unravel fast.
Eventually, Mel does what anyone might do after having too much bad luck, he snaps. But here’s the twist: his breakdown turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to him.
It’s classic Neil Simon: sharp, funny, and surprisingly heartwarming.

There’s something special about live theater, the energy, the laughter, and that sense of shared experience you just can’t get anywhere else. The Prisoner of Second Avenue promises all of that and more. I’m looking forward to seeing how the cast brings Neil Simon’s blend of humor and humanity to life on stage.
