Castilian Roses in December: A Celebration of Culture, Art, and Tradition in San Benito

“Castilian Roses in December” returns to the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum and the museum is ready for its next themed group exhibition inspired by La Virgen de Guadalupe.

In partnership with the San Benito Chamber of Commerce, the museum will host an opening reception on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Honoring an Icon of the Borderlands

Now in its sixth iteration, the exhibition brings together a diverse selection of regional artists who explore the story of La Virgen de Guadalupe and the many dimensions of this patron saint of the South Texas and Northern Mexico region. As an enduring symbol, religious, cultural, and deeply personal, her image is woven into the visual landscape of the Rio Grande Valley.

While rooted in Catholic tradition, La Virgen’s presence has transcended its origins, inviting dialogue around indigeneity, identity, refuge, shared histories, and the lived experiences of the borderlands.

Preserving Heritage Through Art

The San Benito Cultural Arts Department emphasizes that engaging with tradition through contemporary art is essential to preserving the region’s history. This exhibition highlights the strong ties between creative expression, the local environment, and the cultural tapestry of the Rio Grande Valley.
