Poetry, Passion, and Cigars: Anna in the Tropics Comes to Camille Playhouse
Get ready to be transported to 1929 Florida. The Camille Playhouse in Brownsville is proud to present the Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, Anna in the Tropics by Nilo Cruz. (Camille Playhouse, 2026)
This lush, poetic drama explores a world where cigars are still rolled by hand and “lectors” are hired to read literature to the workers. When a new lector arrives and begins reading Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, the lines between the novel and reality begin to blur, sparking a chain of events that will change the factory forever.
