🎭 About the Play

Romeo & Juliet is William Shakespeare’s famous tragedy about two young lovers from feuding families, the Montagues and Capulets, in Verona, Italy.

When an age-old vendetta between these two powerful families erupts into bloodshed, a group of masked Montagues risks further conflict by gatecrashing a Capulet party. It is there that a young, lovesick Romeo Montague falls instantly in love with Juliet Capulet—who is already due to marry her father’s choice, the County Paris.

With the help of Juliet’s nurse, the couple secretly marries the next day. However, fate takes a dark turn when Romeo’s attempt to halt a street fight leads to the death of Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, resulting in Romeo’s banishment.

What follows is a passionate, secret romance plagued by misunderstandings, banishment, and desperate plans. Ultimately, their forbidden love leads to tragic deaths, serving as a timeless story of love and hate that finally ends their families’ ancient feud. Romeo & Juliet masterfully explores themes of love, fate, family loyalty, and the destructive nature of hatred, remaining the quintessential story of young love.
