
Books, Art, and Family Fun Come Together at Brownsville’s Art & Literacy Festival
Looking for a fun and free family outing? The City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department is inviting the community to celebrate creativity, imagination, and the joy of reading at the 2026 Arts & Literacy Festival. (Brownsville Parks & Recreation, 2026)
The festival will take place Saturday, July 25, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Linear Park, offering a morning packed with hands-on activities, live entertainment, and interactive experiences for all ages.
What to Expect at the Festival
Whether your child loves getting lost in a great story, creating colorful works of art, or simply enjoying a morning of family fun, the festival promises something for everyone:
- For Young Readers: Meet local authors and discover new books.
- For Aspiring Artists: Unleash creativity with arts and crafts projects and interactive workshops.

Calling All Young Artists: The Brownsville Story Art Contest
Are you a young artist with a story to tell? In partnership with the Mitte Cultural District, the Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Brownsville Story Art Contest.
This free competition invites children and teens ages 5 to 16 to create original artwork inspired by their favorite City of Brownsville parks, trails, recreation programs, or community events.
Contest Details
- How to enter: Participants can either bring a completed painting or drawing from home or create their masterpiece live during the event.
- The rules: All artwork must be an original painting or drawing that tells a unique Brownsville story.
- The prizes: First-, second-, and third-place awards will be presented in each age division.
- The Grand Prize: One talented artist will have their original artwork featured as the official cover of the Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department’s 2026 Fall/Winter Program Guide!

The contest will take place at the Mitte Arts and Cultural Center (600 E. Ringgold St.).
